Irreverent, not Irrelevant

Two sides to the story

There’s always two sides to every story
And often the truth is the side that’s gory
They say terrorists flew planes into a building
So we’re at war with terror to protect our children
But did they explain how the towers came down
That eyewitnesses said they heard explosion sounds
And firefighters spoke of gold buried under the towers
Is that why the rubble was cleared in a matter of hours

There’s always two sides to every story
And often the truth is the side that’s gory
They say, ‘oh my god Saddam’s got WMDs’
Yeah – the ones the US sold him in the 1983
And George Bush claim’s he’s the free world’s leader
And that the gravest threat comes from al qaeda
But did he mention the CIA’s gift to Osama
Of 6 billion dollars so he could make the drama

There’s always two sides to every story
And often the truth is the side that’s gory
They claim we’re bringing democracy to nations
But stay quiet about the profits for the corporations
yes only US and UK firms will earn from Iraq
And I’m afraid that was there plan right from the start
Cos Bush’s cabinet members are former corporate bosses
Who started these wars so they could line their pockets

There’s always two sides to every story
And often the truth is the side that’s gory
They keep criminally hyping the terrorist threats
So the nations of the world stay fearful and vexed
Yet you’ve more chance of death cooking in the kitchen
Than you have of becoming a terrosist’s victim
So next time you see someone wearing a burkha
Don’t react with aversion, cos they’re just a person

There’s always two sides to every story
And often the truth is the side that’s gory
The media tell us that to fight the terrorist curse
The only course of action is we must strike first
But that’s like killing a puppy cos the dog may bite
Or glassing a skinhead who might have wanted to fight
The truth is violence never reveals strength or power
But rather insecurity, fear and the heart of a coward
